Dear Tired New Mum

Tired mum holding her sleeping newborn baby

Right now, you’re in the thick of it—the sleepless nights, the endless feeds, the moments where you wonder if you’ll ever feel like yourself again. You are exhausted in a way you never knew was possible, yet somehow, you keep going. Because that’s what mums do.

You might feel like you’re fumbling through, questioning every little thing. But just know you are doing an incredible job. Even when you feel like you don’t know what you’re doing, your baby only knows love, warmth, and safety in your arms.

The days blur together, and you wonder if you brushed your teeth or what day of the week it is. You adore this tiny human with every fiber of your being, yet some nights, you dread the setting sun because you know sleep will be fleeting.

Motherhood is a beautiful contradiction—overwhelming, heart-expanding, and so utterly consuming.

But it does get easier.

One day, you’ll wake up and realise you’ve found a rhythm. You’ll notice that the once-daunting tasks—nappy changes, feeding, settling—are now second nature. You’ll trust yourself more. And then, one day, your baby will look up at you and smile. A real, intentional, just-for-you smile. And in that moment, every sleepless night, every tear, every moment of doubt will melt away.

Until then, be gentle with yourself. You matter too. Even if all you can do for yourself today is take a deep breath and stretch your shoulders for 30 seconds—do it. Small moments of care for you are just as important as the care you pour into your baby.

You are not alone. And you are already the most incredible mum your baby could ever ask for.

With love,

An Experienced Tired New Mum Who’s Been There
